Riches Hawley Mikhail won this invited competition for 10 new affordable houses, judged by the residents themselves and developed through intensive consultation. The scheme provides 2, 3 and 4 bedroom family accommodation on a difficult site. A street of 2 storey brick houses is proposed with third and fourth bedrooms in the attic that distort the roof shape and create the characteristic profile of the terrace. The tailored zinc standing-seam roofs sway from side to side down the street, looking over each other and permit light into neighbouring courtyards. The scheme received a Housing Design Award in 2008.
